Theater
Amy Tetzlaff is an actor, teacher, writer and director of children's theater. She moved from Grand Rapids, Michigan to Blue Lake, California in 1995 to train at the Dell' Arte International School of Physical Theatre. After completing their program she performed in a number of original clown pieces and also toured and performed her one woman show "Cherry Pie," in Canada and the U.S. Teaching children theater has always been a passion whether it is clown workshops for kids in Humboldt County, or directing class plays in local elementary schools. She is currently the Education Director at the Arcata Playhouse where she coordinates artist in residency programs in six local elementary schools, facilitates workshops for kids, and supports bringing local classes to attend the Arcata Playhouse School Show Series every spring. Amy is available to collaborate on art integration experiences involving acting, clown, stage direction, mask making and performance, shadow puppetry and script development.

My experience in theatre goes back to high school, where I participated in all aspects of production, including acting, back stage tasks, orchestra performer, (violin and piano) dance performer and singer. This continued during my college years at U.C.L.A. Although my major was music education, I immersed myself in the local theatre culture and continued taking classes in theatre and performing onstage, both at school and in the community.
More recently, theatre has been a large part of my career, again from all aspects. As the music teacher at Union Street Charter, where I was responsible for writing the curriculum, theatre, folk dance, and movement activities were included. Classroom curriculum was always a consideration, collaborating with classroom teachers to integrate music and theatre activities. Worked as musical director and co-director for original plays for grades 3-5 performed at H.S.U’s Gist Hall each year for twenty years, through 2014.
My most recent project was directing “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” at Hoopa Elementary in winter and spring of 2016, which included over 100 students from grades TK-6. I have also worked as a substitute teacher in all subjects for grades TK-8 for the last eight years.
In every situation, I consider children as individuals with varying learning styles and strive to bring out the natural abilities in each child. It would be my pleasure to collaborate with you in integrating theatre, as well as music and/or dance in your classroom using VAPA standards and NCAIP grant guidelines.
