Spring training @ HSU
The spring training consisted of using 10x2 with both music and visual art.
Key concepts of 10x2 are...
Patty gave a 2 hour training on using dance with students. Key musicians she used included Micky Hart and Peter Gabriel. She also suggested claves for helping students with cueing and rhythm.
Mimi gave a 2 hour training on color mixing and color theory. Her file is below.
Key concepts of 10x2 are...
- The numbers don't matter. If your students need 3x2 or 4x3... you know best. We used 10x2 for adult learners and have found that appropriate for grade 5+
- Create an idea bank with the students of concepts of music or art. For example, maybe you want them to concentrate on emotions, shapes, instruments, or memories. In today's workshop, we looked at the "Elements of art or music" as well as ideas, visions, thinking and other senses.
- Show the art or listen for a limited amount of time (30-60 seconds) to focus the students' attention.
- They should list what they saw or heard, writing everything they can. This is usually 3-10 items.
- Give them time to share their thoughts with each other. This can be a "Give one, get one" format.
- Show the art or play the music again for the same amount of time.
- They reflect again on what they saw or heard.
- Group discussion can follow.
