Mrs. Pyzer's 5th grade art
Today is May 1, 2022 and I am adding some of the artwork that my students have created in the last year. I am including student galleries as buttons to click on to see their work.
Factor Spirals
Students produced Factor Spirals using a lesson from ACI. Using a number such as 36 and factors of that number, the students use color to create the spirals. The number 36 might produce a spiral that has 6 colors, 2 spaces and 3 spirals of each color. A different person might have 4 colors, 3 spaces and 3 spirals of each. Each of these spirals would look completely different but were using the same original number. It was a great lesson to use after we talked about factors when starting the fraction unit.

Mixed
For this lesson I used the concept of "Reading Art" with the book Mixed: A Colorful Story. After the story the students used the primary colors and mixed their own color circles. After the paint was dry the students used Sharpie to add facial expressions on the circles to give each on character. An extention to this activity was to use the primary colors and white if needed to create their own skintone. This was quite fun and several students got very close. One student even tried to show his mom on his arm and she couldn't see the difference between his skin and the drop of paint.

Onamonepia
Since my classroom has a superhero theme and we were working with parts of speech I did a lesson with onamonepias. Students used a word that you might be able to put a sound with as you say it. An example might be "The leaves CRUNCHED under my feet." A person could visualize and maybe hear the sound the leaves might make as they were crunching. Students had to create a "Starburst" or other shape that they might use in the old 1966 Batman show on television and share their sound.

Positive/Negative Space
This activity was done at the beginning of the year when we were discussing the elements of art. This was one of many that specifically related to the elements. |
