Two Voices,
|
My Lesson Plan Creation Project (completed in the spring of 2021) consists of a two-voice poem which features the voices of two distinct historical groups and their observations of a natural landscape. Each voice shares their appreciation of the natural resources the land provides as well as their goals, and the motives that drive them. The landscape is painted using water colors. The poem is drafted and the copies onto transparency paper which overlays the landscape. Finally, the students wrote a reflection on the process and explained their thoughts on their work. This lesson was completed with fourth graders and again with fifth graders, offering a cumulative review of their social studies curriculum.

Visualizing Music |
This was one of the first projects we completed during the 2019-2020 year. Students listened to a wide variety of curated pieces of music. They recorded images to accompany each piece and then chose one to expand with full color. The process took several days to complete and the finished projects were kept to be displayed at Open House, and therefore, never fully enjoyed in the classroom which is one of my biggest disappointments which resulted from the COVID-19 Shelter-In-Place orders.

The sample pieces above were created by two students who happened to choose the same piece of music. It is interesting to see compare their images while listening to the music that inspired them.

Mrs. Sears and I have been using shadow puppetry throughout the spring of 2022 to reinforce vocabulary and comprehension skills, practice to improve reading fluency and expression, as well as develop social emotional skills.
Meanwhile, we have received some curriculum materials specific to our local Pomo tribe which includes a selection of myths and legends form Big Valley With this lesson plan , we sought to integrate all three together: shadow puppets, social emotional learning, and the Big Valley Myths. The source for the curriculum materials was provided to us through the Lake County Office of Education: |
