Kathe Lyth
Kathé Lyth holds a Master of Music Education degree from Holy Names
University (Oakland, CA) and a lifetime Standard California Teaching Credential.
She has taught pre-school through university levels for over 40 years, locally,
nationally and internationally. In 1974 Kathé was awarded a Ford Foundation
grant to spend a year in Budapest, Hungary assisting Dr. Klará Kokás
(internationally renowned musical educator and child psychologist) in an
experimental school. Teaching jobs have included Holy Names University, the
Navajo Reservation, (Kayenta, AZ), Saint Bernard’s Catholic School, (Eureka,
CA). and West Chester University in PA. Kathé founded and directs the
Redwood Coast Children’s Chorus and has taken chorus members to over 17
countries on “World Harmony Tours.” She also directs the Redwood Coast Adult
Chorus, performs on the Celtic harp, composes choral works and presents
workshops locally and nationally. As a musical educator, Kathé has compiled a
series of workshops and activities that incorporate the academic California
Standard Core with music. These include: ‘California History Through Dance and
Song’, ‘US History Through Dance and Song’, ‘ Native American Singing Games
For the Classroom’, ‘Connecting Language Art With Music’, ‘Creative Writing
Through Song Writing’, ‘Enhancing Reading Skills Through Music’, ‘Ethnic
Diversity Through Song’, ‘Instrument Making Within Nature,’ ‘Science and Music’,
‘Mathematics and Music’, ‘Creative Movement With Music’ and ‘The Art of Listening”.
