Hoopa Elementary Self Portrait ProjectEach of the nine grade levels at Hoopa Elementary School are starting the year with a self-portrait project. We are excited to support this whole school effort to incorporate the arts into self expression and writing. Each class will display their portraits and writing with an image and a biography of the assigned portrait artist. Families and friends will be provided a “passport” – map of the campus to collect stamps from each grade level display, which earns a family portrait provided by hired photographers.

Realistic portraits
Some artists create realistic portraits. Here are some resources for teaching that skill at any grade:
- Project this video and have students follow along. There is no narration but students can observe and draw along with it. Pause the video as needed.
- This is a good collection of portrait concepts.
- Example slideshow of evaluating portraits for proportional accuracy and historical connections.
